This introductory workshop will focus chiefly on the positions of Sound Recordist, Boom Op, and Production Sound Mixer from the pre-production process right through production.

  • Bit Depth, Sample Rate, Frame Rate
  • Timecode & the slate
  • The Sound Report – make life easy for the post team!
  • Controlling the sounds around us
  • Listening
  • Communicating
  • Pre-Production – yes, you’re part of it!

Hands On Experience:
Sound kits will be on-hand so that participants can run typical sound scenarios
and learn about:

  • Recording & levels
  • Booming techniques
  • Wiring up talent – lav positions, hiding the mic, and the pack.

About the Instructor:
tBone has been on set as a production sound mixer/sound recordist for the last 12 years working on productions like “Supergrid”, “Masterchef Canada”, “Dreamcatcher Bios”, and the “Canada Remembers” documentary series.

He has been a full-time audio engineer for 25 years working in audio post, sound design, advertising and jingle composition alongside some great video production companies and advertising agencies.

Transportation to and from Regina will be supplied by SMPIA at no cost provided we have at least 4 Saskatoon participants taking one of our October 20 Weekend Workshops (Screenwriting or Location Production Sound).
