Owner, Java Post Production

  • Hometown: Regina
  • SMPIA Member since its founding
  • Owner of Java Post Production, founded in 1995 to provide industry-standard post production services from Saskatchewan.
  • Awards: Has won many industry awards, and is most proud of his Teddy Award showcasing Saskatchewan as a tourist destination: “Here we were, little Saskatchewan, and we were competing with Hawaii as a tourist destination!”
  • Inspired by: Technology. Figuring out how it works.  “Even as a kid, I’d go to CKTV with my Dad, the station manager, and I’d love to play with every piece of equipment.“

From post production mastery to flying high with aerial and drone photography

“I spent almost 18 years with CKTV,” he remembers. “I was able to live here and see the world, as a director for live events for CTV, like the Olympics in Lake Placid, NY, Sarajevo, and Calgary.  It really built my skills and confidence.”

In 1995, Jack formed Java Post Production based on his view that emerging technologies would make it possible to provide post production services from Saskatchewan.  In the decades since, he has taken expanded post production into full service finishing, most recently, working on the six-picture slate announced in 2017 by Minds Eye Entertainment Inc..

While Java Post is committed to remaining current in a fast-paced, technology-driven business, Jack is most proud of creating a great team who share the same values and approach. “The thing that gives me the most satisfaction is our team, the way we have worked together for many years, all of us passionate about what we do, all committed to our work.”

For his team of nine, Jack believes SMPIA membership expands that feeling of connection to a larger, provincial sector.  “SMPIA offers team members the chance to learn more about the business, and connect with others.”

Jack is drawn to new technologies and he loves to fly, so it’s no surprise that he would find a way to make this passion a part of his work.  He is now a certified unmanned aerial vehicle—or drone—pilot. Jack is using this capability for work with corporate clients, and on live events and major projects such as Dreamworks SKG/Amblin Entertainment feature film, A Dog’s Purpose

With its first project for a client using photogrammetry now underway, Java Post continues to diversify, a necessity from Jack’s perspective.  “Saskatchewan is home, and to work from home, I am always looking for new ways that Java Post can demonstrate our commitment to industry standards of excellence.  It is our trademark.”
