CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SMPIA BOARD: NOMINATION GUIDELINES

SMPIA’s Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for its Board of Directors.
Positions are for a two-year term.
All positions are confirmed annually by the membership present at the Annual General Meeting.
The Nominating Committee wishes to have representation from a broad cross-section of SMPIA’s membership. Directors shall be nominated or appointed from the following representative areas or organizations, per the SMPIA Constitution:(i) Five (5) producers;
(ii) One (1) from ACTRA;
(iii) One (1) from Directors Guild of Saskatchewan;
(iv) One (1) from IATSE;
(v) Two (2) from industry service providers;
(vi) Four (4) open seats. 
About SMPIA 
SMPIA is a provincial, member-based non-profit organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Established in 1986, SMPIA represents all personnel related to the making and exhibiting of media productions from beginners to veteran professionals. SMPIA’s job is to be a catalyst for change, to facilitate interaction between people working in these media, and to help to create an environment that provides opportunities for the production, promotion and appreciation of media production in Saskatchewan.

  • CV/bio outlining your relevant experience in the Saskatchewan film and television industry 
  • Reasons for running for the SMPIA Board 
  • Any prior volunteer experience with the organization, if applicable.

Application must be received no later than Monday, July 24th at 4:30pm.

Selection Criteria: 
Essential Qualifications
A member of SMPIA in good standing
Relevant experience in the film and television industry

Asset Qualifications:
The following qualifications are considered an asset.
Please indicate in your application whether you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Experience serving as member of a board of directors for a public, private or non-profit organization
  • Knowledge and/or experience of public policy development and delivery
  • Knowledge and/or experience of best practices in equity and inclusion, support programs for underrepresented groups, research and funding for equity-based initiatives

SMPIA Board Director Duties 
To familiarize themselves with the Constitution, Bylaws, Policies and Structure of the organization;

To review minutes and agenda of all committee and Board meetings and correspondence circulated and to come prepared to Board Meetings;

  • To attend meetings of the Board, general meetings of SMPIA and board planning and orientation sessions.
  • To be an advocate on behalf of SMPIA.
  • To lend the benefit of their experience and expertise to the work of the organization.
  • To understand and assume the fiscal responsibility of managing public funds and recognize the legal responsibility for the salaries of the employees.
  • To sit on at least one committee of the Board.
  • To support fundraising efforts of the organization.
  • To foster positive working relations with SMPIA staff.
  • To act with honesty, good faith, and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Directors of SMPIA are expected to attend year Six regular board meetings each year.

The SMPIA Board also appoints board members to provide representation on behalf of SMPIA at meetings of various other organizations and forums.
